Shantaram Author Gregory David Roberts Returns

After a 6-year absence from public and online life, the beloved author of Shantaram, Gregory David Roberts has returned.
Shantaram is my favourite book. Despite being over 1,000 pages in length, I’m in the process of reading it for the third time in my life. It is the tale of a man who lost his ideals, and his family to drugs and crime, was sent to prison for armed robbery, escaped prison and tried to escape his past in Bombay (Mumbai), India. I feel like I am there with him as he describes the wonderful and terrible things he experiences. He ends up working in organized crime, but also becoming a slum doctor and even going to war, and much more. I strongly recommend reading the first few pages and see if they don’t draw you in.
But enough about the past — according to his posts this year (2020), he has spent the past 6 years on a spiritual journey and with his family.
He is now living in Switzerland. And he has more creations to share with the world.
He has a new book, though perhaps to the disappointment of some of his fans, it is not a part of the Shantaram series, but rather a book about his spiritual journey, entitled The Spiritual Path. It should be released in a few weeks.
Furthermore, he has been writing music, some of which is already online. He went to Jamaica to record and has been deeply moved by the Jamaican people.
He has been updating his website since April 23rd this year with updates about what he has been doing, as well as sharing his thoughts on the pandemic and George Floyd’s death. He recalls his own experiences being pinned down and suffocated by prison guards, yet somehow he still has a great deal of empathy for police and prison guards.
In his latest post, he describes his efforts to establish his own ethical publishing company.
I am happy to see he is engaging with the world again. I’m not sure if I will be too keen on the spiritual book, but I am eager for the rest of the Shantaram saga.
